So you have written your book in WORD and it is ready to upload. But hold it a moment. Check these things
1. Spelling
2. Format
3. Put a table of contents that is active in it.
4. Leave a blank page between each chapter,it looks better on Kindle.
5.put information at the end about your web site or impending books.
Save as a web ready ,filtered doc.
All these things will be covered in my booklet which will be available from my website soon

Kindle Part one   Leave a comment

Ok ,First you write, minimum twenty pages. Any topic, but if it is something others would buy,all the better. You may know a lot about a particular subject,in which case you will have no problem.Otherwise choose something you would like to know about and start researching on the web. Try Yahoo answers,to find subject matter that people are talking about. The answers would also help you in constructing your chapters. Use Word07 0r Open Office if you have a Mac. Save your file in Times New Roman, point 14,single space, small indent. You can even leave a page break between chapters,it looks better when viewed on a Kindle. You will need a table of Contents,so look in word for the automatic versions and choose style Heading One for your chapter headings. Check spelling and punctuation.

Kindle Books   Leave a comment

If you are looking for a way to publish your writing then this avenue needs to be explored. It costs you nothing, some advertising is done for you and anyone can buy and download your books. Ok so you have to write them first ,but that is not so hard and they do not have to be as long as real paperbacks. So How do we start?

1. Pick a topic that you can write about,It could be anything, training your hampster, starting a stamp collection or twenty ways to impress the opposite sex. There is limitless information on the web about any subject.

Use word or Open office and type it out. Save as .doc

2. Join Amazon Kindle and register.

3.Design a book cover in photoshop, paint, illustrator or any other design package. All info is available in the Amazon Kindle site.

4.Upload your file, should be 24 hours before accepted. Bingo!

There is a bit more to it than that, but I shall be posting details on my blog

starting out online selling   Leave a comment

A year ago I started writing in a notebook, the first page was just a series of bullet points, ideas for what I would like to attempt, here they are.

1.Write a book

2.Build a Web site

3. Earn a living on line.

So far I have done the first two and making inroads into the third one.

Maybe we can help each other?

Once you start looking into writing on the web ,it drags you in deeper and deeper. You cant get deviated from your original plan with chances to write Blog’s or Articles for your own web site or another person’s who may actually pay you. Hours can be spent surfing the web and reading articles like this one. I somehow started looking at selling and being an affiliate and within a few weeks was snowed under by all sorts of information ,both good and bad. Be very sure about what you want to achieve and don’t get sidetracked. You will get all sorts of offers that promise you instant wealth often at the click of a button. Forget it,if it was true then don’t you think we would all be doing it? But that does not mean that you cannot earn a living on line. What are the options?

1. sell other peoples products and get a cut. in short become an affiliate for Amazon or E bay.

2. Sell digital ” How to” products ie How to make money.

3.Stick to your guns and sell your own stuff on-line.

4.Use your internet knowledge to get other peoples web sites up and running and get paid well for doing it.

The easiest of the four is to sell other peoples stuff. So what do you do?

Work every evening for several hours, learn the ropes.

Build websites ( not as hard as you may think)

Put loads of info and links to their homesite.( get a free licence from them)

Pick specific niche ie Guitars,Health products , sowing machines etc

Get Google to rank your page so everyone sees it and buys products via your site. ( this is the hardest part and takes the time)

Good marketers often have a hundred different sites, but start with one.

It can be very daunting when you start. My best advice is don’t even think about trying to make any money for at least six months. Just pretend you are at college doing an internet course.Study and improve your knowledge week by week, slowly build your first site.Treat it as an enjoyable way to spend an hour or so each evening.Let the cut throat stuff come later.

Blogs   Leave a comment

Once you finally get your blog set up and make it look exactly like you want it to, the next thing that you want, unless your blog is a private journal, is people to read the blog. There are a lot of ways to gain traffic for your blog, and some of them work better than others. Below are some suggestions for what to do (and what not to do) to get more traffic to your WordPress blog.
1. Stumble Upon- Stumble is a website which installs a toolbar in your browser (don’t worry, there is no annoying advertising or spyware, or anything like that) which allows you to “stumble” through the internet. You click “Stumble” and you are taken to a website based on your interests and the suggestions of others. You have the choice to mark the page as a “Like” or a “Dislike”, or you can review it. If you list your blog on Stumble, you WILL get traffic. I suggest writing a very good blog post and submitting it to Stumble (by clicking “I Like It” while looking at the post) and also submitting your main blog page. Doing so got me about 500 hits within hours. Since then, I get a few hits from Stumble every day. Sometimes it’s just one or two, and sometimes it’s twenty. If your content is good, more people will click “I Like It” and you’ll get more traffic. Something important to note is that if you submit every page that you write to Stumble, or if you’re not submitting anything else, you will eventually get blocked from Stumble or your submissions will carry much less weight. I suggest only submitting the posts that you REALLY think Stumble users will appreciate.
2. Digg - Unless you have a lot of friends and contacts on Digg, don’t bother. Digg can easily skyrocket your post from 100 Diggs to 1000 Diggs, but it will almost never move you from 2 Diggs to 20, or from 20 to 100. I listed about ten blog posts on Digg, and I think I got a total of one hit. If you do have a lot of support on Digg, or if you feel that you can build it, it might be useful. However, building a presence takes a lot of time and effort, and it might be better spent just by promoting your blog.
3. Facebook and Myspace- list your blog’s webpage on Facebook and Myspace. Don’t spam, but stick it in your status message or on your profile. I’m barely active at all on either website, but I still get two or three hits a week from people who see the link in my profile and click it. If you are active, and if people view your profile frequently, you will get a lot more hits.
4. Use WordPress Tags and Categories appropriately- When I first started using wordpress, I organized my Categories based on things that I write. For example, I created the SILT category for “Stuff I Leanred Today”. It turns out that your personal Categories are tied to wordpress Categories in general. So if I post into my personal Category “Erin’s Political Views” it stays put, or gets put into Category – Erin’s Political Views, and no one ever finds it that way. If I instead list it under Politics, it gets hit by everyone looking at the Politics category, and can even get picked to be “Best in Category.” Tags work similarly, except that from what I can tell, there seem to be a lot more tags in use than Categories. I tend to get most of my hits, currently (with the exception of Stumble spikes) from wordpress Tags, and a few from Categories. Also, on the front page of WordPress.com are lists of Categories and Tag that are currently popular. Use this list when you’re not sure what to write about. The most popular tags are usually Politics, Life, Music, Photography, etc. “Personal”, somehow, is even a popular tag. I would think to add “life” to my journal-type blog posts, but I would never had thought to add “Personal” until I looked at that list. Check it frequently.
5. Yahoo Answers -If you have a speciality, and especially if your blog is focused on teaching people about specific things, Yahoo Answers can be a good place to advertise. When you answer a question (being thorough and helpful) list your website in the box for resources. People who like your answer will click the link to your blog for more information.
6. Be the reader you want.Go to other people’s wordpress, read and comment. Subscribe if you like what they write, and add them to their blogroll if you think that your readers will like it as well. Also, if you use other websites based on the things you discuss in your website (for example, I use Flickr and DeviantArt for photography) make friends there and list your website on your profile. Whenever you see ANY content online that you like, promote it just like you would promote your blog. Do it anonymously, or do it in a way that lets them know what you have done. Hopefully, they will do the same for you, but at the least, you know that you’ve given someone else the satisfaction of seeing new hits on their blog.
7. Consider your own habits- How do you find websites? Do you search google? Do friends IM them to you? Do you click links in people’s blogroll? However you find websites, try to make your own blog accessible in the same ways. You’ll be amazed at how many ways you can think of to bring traffic to your blog.
8. Signatures- In emails and on forums, add your blog url to your signature. If someone likes what you have to say (or if they really don’t like it) they may click on the link to find out more about you.
9. Don’t spam- spamming, just as posting a URL to your blog on a website’s comments sections or in an unrelated forum thread, doesn’t do you any good. Think about it. Have you EVER clicked on one of those links? You’re only wasting your time if you spam.
10. Interesting Titles and Opening Lines – frequently, readers won’t see your entire blog. They will see the titles of one or more blog posts, and maybe the first few lines. If the titles are boring, they probably won’t click to read more. You have to attract your reader from the start.
11. Submit to contests and blog-rating sites – there are a number of websites, such as Blog of the Day Award, that you can submit your blog to. I recently won a Blog of the Day Award, and I’m getting a lot of traffic from that. Don’t be afraid to submit your blog, what’s the worst that can happen? Also, don’t be afraid to ask a blogger that you respect to look at your blog and make suggestions. If they like what they see, they may link to you. If they don’t, their suggestions will hopefully help you make your blog better.
12. Make your RSS button accessible- having an easy-to-find RSS button means that readers who like what they see will be more likely to add you to RSS. If your RSS button is at the bottom of the page, or if you don’t have one, readers might not even consider adding you to RSS.

Amusing Fiction Stories, Building a Blog
BLOGS
A Blog is just somewhere that you can add comments, information and keep in contact with people who show an interest in what you are doing. Mine is moosproject.wordpress.com and WordPress or BlogSpot, although there are many others, make it very easy for you to sign up and create one, just follow their instructions. You can also have one on your web site so that people will come back regularly.
Rules
If you start one, make it a regular habit to put in new content, people will stop looking if nothing has changed. Don’t just churn out promotion, give them something worth reading.
Link it to your web site or to Twitter or Facebook etc. Put it on your letter headings and business cards. When you send an e-mail it could be included at the bottom.
Tell everyone you know and tell them to tell everyone they know who may be interested in the same sort of things.
If you start it, don’t stop without letting people know why. Having worked so hard to get people interested you don’t want to put their backs up. I have returned to blogs and websites after a few days and found that nothing had changed. Unless I was really interested in that subject, it would be unlikely that I would bother again if there was no new content.
Write articles like this one, explaining how you intend to use your blog. In my case I offer information and updates about how to write amusing fiction stories. I also write short stories. You can also write articles and send them to sites such as Ezine articles and have a link back to your blog or web site. Anything that will make people aware of you must be a good thing if you are attempting to put your voice out in the big wide digital world. A blog will link you with the world and provide an ideal platform to get your ideas out there. Even if you are not trying to promote anything, it is still a good way for your friends to keep in contact. Facebook is very popular but it reaches everyone and not just those who are interested in the same things that you are.
You may not be interested in amusing fiction stories, for you it may be carpentry or stamp collecting, it does not matter why not start today?

Writing   1 comment

Amusing Fiction Stories, Writing (how to)
Most people think there is a book in them, but how do you start writing in my case amusing fiction stories, or any type of fiction. If you have ever kept a diary for any length of time, you will realise that even with only half an hour a day, then a lot can be written in a week, a month or even a year. All you have to do is make the entries sequential, turn the contents from self into fictional characters and do a serious bit of daydreaming. By the end of the year you will have written your first book.
It gets even easier than that, you don’t have to plan everything out in advance. The best ideas come as you are typing away (slowly in my case). It may help to have a general aim, something that takes the main character from one set of situations, through some changes and deposits them at the end a different slightly different person. It does not always have to be for the better. But I would be willing to bet money that what you start out intending, does not end up that way. My amusing fiction stories are very much like daydreams in that even within individual chapters they can change dramatically even as I type. Don’t get hung up on keeping to your strict plan, let the characters come alive and tell you what they want to do next.
When I was at school, my spelling was terrible; it held me back despite having great ideas in my mind. Thank God we now have digital help and it should now not worry anyone. Just write, worry about spelling and punctuation later. Don’t let a good idea slip away because you can’t find the right words. Anything will do at first as long as it conveys the meaning back to you. On another day you will be able to phrase it better. Some of the best authors in the past needed assistance from proofreaders, if you get as far as thinking that it may be good enough to publish, it may be worth a little expense finding someone who can go through all the small corrections.
As I said I write Amusing fiction stories, mainly because it is fun to visualise crazy situations between my characters. All you have to do is place them in a situation and let one of them kick off about something either verbally or physically, and then consider how the others would react. What they then do will determine what happens next and so on.
I hope you will take a look at my www.amusingfictionstories.com web site and keep in touch. I will be posting regularly and can help you with achieving your goal to see your own creative writing on the web. Regards John
